Put your yearly mammogram at the top of the list—we do.

If you’re over 40, having a yearly mammogram is vital to staying healthy. For many women, life seems to be a never ending to do list. But no matter how busy life gets, you still have to take care of you. And that begins with a yearly mammogram from Woman’s convenient locations or one of our affiliated physician offices. So put yourself on the top of your list, ask your doctor to order your mammogram and call Woman’s at 225-924-8391.

The Three-Step Approach

Although breast cancer cannot be prevented, the good news is that with early detection a lot of breast cancers can be successfully treated. Breast cancer can appear at almost any age, although it is most likely to occur in women over the age of 40. Breast cancer can go unnoticed for several years if you do not practice breast self-examination, have yearly doctor exams, and have regular mammography.

At Woman’s Hospital, our three-step approach has proven most effective in diagnosing breast cancer early, so treatment can begin early, and patients are given their best chance of successful treatment.

Step 1- Breast Self-Exam
Breast self-examination is simple to learn and takes about ten minutes. Every woman should follow a self-examination routine each month to become familiar with the regular feel and appearance of her breasts. To view steps for self-exam, click here.

Step 2- Clinical Breast Exam
You should schedule an examination once a year with your doctor.

Step 3 - Mammography
The American Cancer Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Radiology and several other professional organizations recommend a mammogram every year starting at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, a lump, nipple discharge or other symptoms, check with your doctor about whether you should begin mammography at an earlier age, or the need for more frequent mammograms.

Our digital mammography enables us to provide your radiologist with the most detailed mammogram possible. One that only takes seconds to produce. Plus, it can be manipulated on a computer for a more thorough evaluation. And with Triple-Review Mammography, we provide the most thorough screening process available.
