Breastfeeding

Breast fed is the best fed! If you’re thinking about breastfeeding your baby, we’re eager to support and encourage you in every way possible. Professional lactation consultants at Woman's Hospital provide breastfeeding classes both before and after your baby is born. We offer prenatal education and lactation services at the hospital’s main campus and at Woman’s Center for Wellness. Private breastfeeding consultations are also available. Plus, our Mom & Baby Boutique offers a range of breastfeeding and pumping supplies for sale and rental, so that you can head home with everything you need to be successful at feeding your newborn.

Breastfeeding-Healthy, Rewarding, Nurturing

Human breast milk is the perfect food for a baby. It can help prevent disease, provide optimum nutrition, and promote healthy growth and development-even lower the risk of allergy and dental problems. When you decide to breastfeed your baby, our certified lactation consultants and registered nurses are here to support you in your decision--with bedside teaching, a "Warmline" for questions, and classes to give you the information you need. For more information, call Woman's Warmline at 225-924-8239. Breastfeeding supplies available through Woman's Mom & Baby Boutique in Physician Tower I or call 225-231-5578. You can also check our Community Calendar for classes on Breastfeeding and Baby Care.

Click here for a printable breastfeeding chart! (Adobe Acrobat required) It may help to keep a simple checklist chart to mark daily feedings and diaper counts until your baby is gaining weight appropriately.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an advocate of breastfeeding as the optimal form of nutrition for infants.

For more information, call Woman's Warmline at 225-924-8239.
